EDUCATION OVERVIEW
The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (Lishui Central Hospital) has consistently adhered to the core strategy of "revitalizing the hospital through science and education, and strengthening it through talent." It upholds the integrated development of medical services, education, and research, and is dedicated to establishing a high-level teaching system, advancing the construction of a research- and education-oriented hospital, and cultivating high-quality medical professionals for the healthcare sector.

The hospital serves as a national examination center for the clinical category of the Physician Qualification Practical Skills Examination—one of only five such centers in Zhejiang Province—responsible for administering the examination across the regions of Jinhua, Lishui, and Quzhou. It is also a joint postgraduate training base in Zhejiang Province, the Lishui International Medical Center of Wenzhou Medical University, a Class A postgraduate training base, and the chair institution of the Alliance Committee of Wenzhou Medical University. The hospital has successively become an affiliated hospital of Zhejiang University in Lishui, a teaching hospital of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, the International Clinical Medical College of Hangzhou Medical College, and a teaching hospital of both Shaoxing University and Lishui University.
In 2011, the hospital became one of the first provincial standardized residency training bases in Zhejiang Province. In 2014, it was approved as one of the first national standardized residency training bases, and currently hosts 16 specialty training bases. In 2024, in collaboration with Lishui Second People's Hospital, it was approved to establish a national "general-specialty combined" psychiatry training base. As of June 2025, the hospital has 388 residency training faculty members, with 359 residents in training and more than 270 who have successfully completed the program. Over the past three years, the first-time pass rates for residency graduation exams and physician qualification exams have consistently exceeded the national average. In 2023, the hospital’s residency training base was promoted to the second tier in Zhejiang Province; in 2024, the internal medicine base also advanced to the second tier. The radiology and ultrasound medicine bases have repeatedly been recognized as "Provincial Outstanding Residency Training Bases."
In recent years, the hospital has deepened its cooperation with several universities, including Zhejiang University and Wenzhou Medical University. Over the past three years, it has trained 29 doctoral students and 316 master’s students. The hospital has made remarkable progress in the development of its faculty, with a total of 11 doctoral and 137 master’s supervisors, including two who were honored as "Most Outstanding Supervisors" by Wenzhou Medical University. The hospital has successfully hosted major academic events such as the inauguration ceremony of the Wenzhou Medical University Graduate Training Base Alliance and Reform and Development Forum, as well as the National Clinical Skills (Imaging Interpretation) Competition for Postgraduates organized by the Alliance of Graduate Schools of Medical Universities, fostering a strong academic atmosphere.
The hospital is also responsible for the clinical teaching of interns and trainees from multiple medical institutions, receiving several hundred medical and nursing interns and trainees each year. Emphasizing the importance of teaching quality, the hospital has implemented rigorous supervision mechanisms and a responsive system for correction and improvement. Each year, it initiates and receives approval for over 10 educational reform projects. The hospital has achieved excellent results in various teaching evaluations and clinical skills competitions.
A modern Clinical Skills Training Center has been established, covering an area of 4,500 m², and includes 30 OSCE examination rooms. It houses teaching models valued at 15 million RMB and consists of six major training platforms: Comprehensive Basic Skills, Emergency Skills, Clinical Reasoning, Simulated Endoscopy, Simulated Surgery, and Nursing Skills. The center is equipped with advanced simulation devices and a video-based teaching library, providing a high-quality practical training environment for healthcare professionals and medical students. Regular activities include scenario-based simulation teaching, AHA-certified emergency training, and public emergency skills workshops, with an annual training capacity exceeding 20,000 participants.
The hospital places great emphasis on clinical skills training and continuing education. Annually, approximately 70 continuing education programs are approved, benefiting over 10,000 trainees. Each year, nearly 100 key clinical, nursing, and administrative personnel are selected to pursue advanced training at leading domestic and international institutions. At the same time, the hospital receives nearly 200 clinical, nursing, and administrative personnel for further professional development.
