The Provincial Key Laboratory of Imaging and Interventional Medicine was originally established in 2011. In 2017, it was officially recognized as the Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory of Imaging Diagnosis and Minimally Invasive Research, receiving an “Excellent”rating during its evaluation period. Following a structural reorganization in 2023, it was formally re-approved in 2024 under its current name, marking a new chapter in its development.

The laboratory currently comprises 54 full-time members, forming a multidisciplinary team with expertise across radiology, molecular imaging, interventional minimally invasive medicine, oncology, cardiovascular medicine, pharmacy, and basic medical sciences. Among them, 86% hold doctoral degrees or senior professional titles. The team includes 13 doctoral supervisors and 34 master’s supervisors, and the lab is currently responsible for training more than 100 master’s and doctoral candidates.

The talent pool includes one recipient of the State Council Special Allowance, two recipients of the National Science Fund for Excellent Young Scholars, one recipient of the Overseas Excellent Young Scholars Program, one Changjiang Scholar of the Ministry of Education, and one individual selected for the National Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project. Additionally, over 25 team members have been recognized under provincial talent development programs, including the “151 Talent Project” (key support category) and the “Ten Thousand Talents Plan” for leading scientific and technological personnel, thus forming a highly influential and distinguished academic team.

Occupying more than 4,500 square meters, the laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging diagnostic equipment, including internationally advanced 3.0T MRI scanners, PET/CT systems, and Force dual-source CT. It also features a comprehensive array of research instruments such as laser confocal microscopes, flow cytometers, small animal in vivo imaging systems (Zone I/II), as well as platforms for protein quantification, gene sequencing, quantitative PCR, molecular pathology detection, and gene knockout research. Standard cell culture facilities and a fully equipped experimental animal center further support its research activities.

Over the past five years, the laboratory has undertaken 18 national-level projects (including four key national R&D programs), 31 provincial and ministerial-level research projects such as the “Pioneer and Leading Goose” initiative, and 101 municipal and departmental-level projects, with cumulative funding exceeding 50 million yuan. Research outcomes have been published in 175 SCI-indexed articles in internationally renowned journals, including Chemical Reviews, Nature Communications, PNAS, Journal of Hematology & Oncology, and Molecular Cancer. These include 68 papers in top-tier journals and 44 with an impact factor greater than 10. The lab has also secured 22 national invention patents, published or contributed to nine monographs, participated in drafting eight expert consensus documents, and contributed to one group standard. Its achievements have been widely acknowledged by the academic community, earning 30 awards in total, including nine at the provincial and ministerial levels and 21 at the municipal and departmental levels.

The laboratory has consistently upheld the principles of openness, collaboration, and mutual benefit in its approach to external cooperation. It has developed stable partnerships with leading medical and research institutions both domestically and internationally, including the University of Washington School of Medicine, Cleveland Clinic, National University of Singapore, University of Tsukuba, Peking University, Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Zhejiang University, Southeast University School of Medicine, Tongji University, and Wenzhou Medical University. To date, more than 30 personnel have been sent abroad for academic exchanges, and nearly 10 Ph.D. students and postdoctoral researchers have been co-trained with international partners, fostering a robust environment of international scientific collaboration.

Under the leadership of Director Dr. Ji Jiansong, the laboratory has carried out a series of studies centered on precision imaging diagnosis and comprehensive interventional therapy for tumors and cardiovascular diseases. The research is primarily focused on three areas:

1. Precision subtyping diagnosis and prognostic modeling based on radiomics;

2. Precision diagnosis and therapeutic research based on multimodal and molecular imaging;

3. Clinical and translational medical research in interventional medical engineering and biotechnology.

Dedicated to addressing major clinical challenges, the laboratory integrates resources and research efforts with the mission of transforming scientific achievements into clinical applications that benefit the local population. It is committed to safeguarding public health and contributing meaningfully to the realization of a “Healthy China” and the Chinese Dream.
